The walk

From the Col de Bavella, at about 1,218 m between Zonza and Solenzara, take the path south through the old pines below the red granite spires of the Aiguilles de Bavella. It is broad and almost level at first, then climbs gently through the forest and over slabs to the foot of the Paliri ridge, where the Trou de la Bombe, a round hole some metres across, is worn right through the rock. The walk stops at the viewpoint below the hole. Return the same way.

It is 5.7 km there and back with 149 m of ascent; allow about 2 hours. The grade is Easy: a forest path, rough and rocky in places near the end.

Climbing up into the hole itself means scrambling on steep rock and is not part of this walk. The pass is high for Corsica: mist, wind and winter snow are common, and the road over it can be icy in winter.

The Parking de Bavella at the col gives 30 minutes free, then charges by the hour.
