The walk
From the National Trust car park at Carnewas the walk goes down the steps to the viewpoint over Bedruthan beach and its great rock stacks. It follows the coast path north past Redcliff Castle, an Iron Age earthwork, and Diggory's Island to Pentire Steps, then on round the base of Park Head to the little cove of Porth Mear. It turns inland up the valley, along a lane by the National Trust cottages, and back over the fields to the coast path, which it follows south to Carnewas.
It is 6.5 km with 136 m of ascent; allow about 2 hours. The grade is Easy. It is mostly level clifftop walking.
There is no access to the beach: the cliff staircase has been closed since rock falls in 2019, and the National Trust asks people not to look for another way down. The cliff tops are unfenced. Livestock graze the fields and sheep graze Park Head all year, so keep dogs on leads.
The car park is a National Trust pay car park, free to members, with a shop and a tea room. There is no station near; the nearest is Newquay, about 8 km away.
