The walk
From Corniglia station, climb the steps to the village and take path 587, which climbs steeply on broken steps through terraces and pine wood to the houses of Case Pianca. Path 586 then runs almost level along the slope just below the road, through the vineyards of Le Coste and past the houses of Porciana, to the hamlet of Volastra and its church of Nostra Signora della Salute. From Volastra path 506 drops by steps and terraces beside the Groppo stream to the top of Manarola.
It is 6.1 km one way with 342 m of ascent and 289 m of descent; allow about 2½ hours. The grade is Easy: a steep climb, a level middle and a long stepped descent. The park grades path 587 for experienced hikers because of its broken steps.
The park's card page lists only the coastal path and the Via dell'Amore as paid paths, so no Cinque Terre Card is needed here. The coastal path between Corniglia and Manarola has been closed since a landslide in 2013; in November 2025 the park was still at the design stage of the repairs. Path 586 was closed for works from November 2025 to 20 March 2026. The park closes all its paths under an orange weather alert.
Trains link Manarola and Corniglia for the return. There is a car park at the top of Manarola.
