The walk
From the Leighery Road lay-by, go through the gate opposite into the forest and follow the track uphill for about 1.5 km. At the forest road, turn right towards the top, pass the trout-stocked lough, then head north-west to the cliff edge for the views. The way back follows a path north-west down through the forest and a track to the road.
It is 5.1 km round with 198 m of ascent; allow about 1¾ hours. The grade is Moderate: forest tracks and paths with one steep climb, rising to about 370 m. On a clear day the view from the edge takes in Lough Foyle, the Roe Valley, Inishowen and the Causeway Coast, and as far as Islay and Jura.
The walk ends at the cliff edge: keep well back, especially in wind or mist. Gliders from the Ulster Gliding Club may be seen overhead. Leave the gate as you found it.
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council lists the parking on Leighry Road beside a sharp bend as free.
