The walk

The walk starts at the Ardvonie car park in Kingussie and goes round in a loop. It follows Gynack Road and a footway through the north of the town to a path beside the Gynack Burn, which runs past the golf course to the foot of Loch Gynack, 1.6 km from the car park. A path with steps and a boardwalk leads on to the east shore of the loch at 2.4 km, round its north-western end, and back down through birchwood above the loch to Gynack Road, with the town below. The way is waymarked with orange arrows and a golf flag as the Golf Course Circular.

It is 4.7 km (2.9 miles) with 113 m (371 ft) of ascent; allow about 1½ hours. The grade is Easy by our measure, which counts time and climb; the Cairngorms National Park Authority's Kingussie Paths leaflet rates the circular moderate, 4.5 km, allow 2 hours, with short steep sections and steps, some narrow, rough and rocky ground, and mud.

About 0.8 km of the way is along streets in Kingussie, at the start and the end. Watch for path junctions beside the golf course, where the leaflet marks one.

The Ardvonie car park is free (OpenStreetMap: no fee). Kingussie station is 340 m away.
