The walk

From the top of the gondola at Männlichen, high on the ridge between Grindelwald and Wengen, the path heads south along the east side of the Tschuggen. It runs almost level across open slopes to Honegg, with the north face of the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau straight ahead and Grindelwald far below. It then drops gently below the Lauberhorn to Kleine Scheidegg, where the railways to Wengen, Grindelwald and the Jungfraujoch meet.

It is 5.5 km one way with 171 m of ascent and 334 m of descent; allow about 2 hours. The grade is Easy: a broad, well-kept path, mostly gently downhill. Grindelwald Tourismus grades it T1, the easiest Swiss hiking grade.

The path is high and exposed to the weather, so take warm clothes. It is a summer path; from late autumn snow covers it and the lifts run for skiers. Cows graze the slopes in summer.

Reach Männlichen by gondola from Grindelwald Terminal, which has a large car park and a station on the line from Interlaken, or by cable car from Wengen. From Kleine Scheidegg the trains go down to both Grindelwald and Wengen.
