The hike
From the Sand Dune Arch car park a path leads into a narrow gap between fins and over deep sand to Sand Dune Arch, hidden in the shade. Come back out and take the trail across the open grassland to Broken Arch, which the path goes straight through. Beyond it the trail runs on towards Devils Garden Campground, and a signed spur leads to Tapestry Arch. The loop passes through the campground between its two trailheads, then heads south through the fins, with a little scrambling, back to the junction in the grassland and the car park.
It is 2.9 miles (4.6 km) around the loop with 260 feet (78 m) of climbing; allow about 1½ hours. The grade is Easy: it is short and nearly level, but there is deep sand and a short scramble.
The park gives 0.4 miles for Sand Dune Arch alone and 2.3 miles for the Broken Arch loop. There is a toilet at the car park but no water: the nearest tap is at the campground. The grassland has no shade. No timed-entry reservation is needed in 2026, but expect a queue at the park entrance between March and October. Dogs are not allowed on trails. Do not climb on the arches or jump from them.
