The ride
From Blois station the ride drops to the Loire and crosses it, then follows the Loire à Vélo downstream on the left bank. It turns inland at Madon to Candé-sur-Beuvron and crosses the Beuvron valley to Chaumont-sur-Loire, whose château and gardens stand above the river. From there it runs on through the vineyards on the slopes by Rilly and Mosnes and comes into Amboise below its château.
It is 40.3 km (25.0 miles) one way with 134 m of climbing; allow about 3 hours of riding. The grade is Moderate. The surface is smooth throughout; a little under half is on cycle paths and the rest on quiet shared roads, with some short climbs onto the slopes.
The Loire à Vélo's left-bank path east of Blois, at Vineuil, is closed until spring 2027 for a new footbridge, which rules out the usual ride to Chambord for now; this ride goes the other way and avoids it. The last stretch into Amboise is on a busier road.
The Passerelle de la Gare car park by Blois station is free. Trains run back from Amboise to Blois about ten times a day, and from Onzain-Chaumont station, 1 km from Chaumont, for a shorter ride.
