The ride

From the Blauwiese car park on the mainland at Lindau the ride drops to the lakeshore at Reutin and follows the Lake Constance cycle path (Bodensee-Radweg) west. It passes the church on the little peninsula at Wasserburg, then Nonnenhorn and Kressbronn among orchards and vines, to Langenargen, where Schloss Montfort stands on the shore. It crosses the river Argen and goes on through Eriskirch into Friedrichshafen, ending at the town station.

It is 25.6 km (15.9 miles) one way with 28 m of climbing; allow about 1¾ hours of riding. The grade is Easy. It is flat, mostly on quiet roads and cycle paths, with short stretches beside busier roads in Lindau and Langenargen.

The route is signed throughout with the cycle path's own signs. Trains run back from Friedrichshafen to Lindau twice an hour, stopping at Eriskirch, Langenargen, Kressbronn, Nonnenhorn and Wasserburg, so you can cut the ride short; local trains and the lake boats carry bikes.

Lindau asks visitors not to drive onto the island. The Blauwiese car park (P1) costs €5 a day, with a shuttle bus to the island; the car park by Lindau-Reutin station costs €7 a day. Schloss Montfort has a tower you can climb, and Lindau has several bike hire shops.
