The ride
From the Tournette car park by the lake in Annecy the greenway (voie verte) follows the old Annecy to Albertville railway south along the west shore. It runs by Sévrier and Saint-Jorioz, through a 188 m tunnel at Duingt, where the lake narrows, and past Bredannaz to Bout du Lac at the southern end. Come back the same way.
It is 33.1 km (20.6 miles) there and back with 32 m of climbing; allow about 2¼ hours of riding. The grade is Moderate. It is tarmac, 3.5 m wide and being widened, traffic-free and flat.
The lake is too low for the boat back from Doussard to Annecy, which has not sailed since 24 September 2026, so ride both ways. The road and greenway on the east shore are closed between La Glière and Angon until 18 December 2026 for rockfall works, so the round-the-lake ride is not possible. Keep right and keep dogs on a short lead. More than a million and a half people use the greenway every year: it is busy on fine weekends.
The Tournette car park is paid. There are toilets and water at Bredannaz, and more than 30 bike hire firms in Annecy, as well as Vélonecy self-service e-bikes. The railway opened in 1901, lost its passengers in 1938 and became a greenway in the 1970s.
