The ride
From the Campo Sportivo car park in Peschiera del Garda the Mincio cycle path follows the river out of Lake Garda, crossing to the left bank at the Salionze dam. It passes below Monzambano to Borghetto, where medieval mills stand in the river beside the Visconti bridge below Valeggio sul Mincio, then runs on by Pozzolo and the woods of Marmirolo into Mantua, ending at the station.
It is 42.6 km (26.5 miles) one way with 0 m of climbing; allow about 2¾ hours of riding. The grade is Moderate. It is asphalt all the way, flat and gently downhill, almost all on its own path away from traffic; it is part of EuroVelo 7.
The path closed for a few days at several points this year for fallen trees and works; those closures have ended, but check before you go. Mantua's Castello di San Giorgio is a short ride from the station.
Parking at the Campo Sportivo is free, with no time limit. Trains run back from Mantua to Verona every hour and on to Peschiera; take a bike ticket (€3.50 a day) and use trains marked with the bike symbol. On Sundays and holidays until 25 October 2026 the APAM Bicibus carries 16 bikes back to Peschiera at 7.40am and 2.20pm, for €5 a bike plus the fare.
