Everything you need to post about the app
The facts you can use, the things we would ask you not to say, caption ideas to adapt, how to label a post, and the screenshots. Your own link and code are in the email we sent you. If you cannot find it, write to [email protected].
The short version
Copy this if you need a few sentences about the app.
Global Adventurer is an offline map and route app for walking and cycling, for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. There is no account, no ads and no tracking. The maps work with no signal, you can import and export GPX, and Pro adds the day routes, hill lists, live sharing with a group and links to Garmin and Strava. Pro is £9.99 a year, or £49.99 once.
Facts you can use
- No account, no ads, no tracking. You open it and use it.
- It works with no signal. Download the map for a route before you leave, then record and follow it offline.
- iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The watch records by itself and shows the route and your progress. There is no Android version yet.
- Nine languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Norwegian, Swedish, Korean, Hebrew and Arabic.
- Your own files. Import and export GPX for free. Sending routes to a Garmin and sharing finished activities to Strava are part of Pro.
- Hill lists such as the Wainwrights, Munros and Corbetts, ticked off from the walks you record (Pro).
- Live sharing with a group: one link, and everyone can see where the group is (Pro).
- Price in the UK: £9.99 a year, or £49.99 once for Pro for life. Prices differ in other countries.
What we would ask you not to say
That routes are “checked”, “verified” or “vetted”
We draw routes along OpenStreetMap paths with their maps, figures and photos, and we cannot say more than that. Please say what you walked and what you found.
That it replaces judgement, a map or a compass
It is a good tool, and you are still responsible for where you go. Please say so if you talk about safety.
That SOS calls for help
The Emergency Location screen shows your position and the right numbers to ring where you are. It does not call anyone itself.
Anything about being “the best” or comparing prices with other apps
Say what you like about it. Leave the league tables to someone else.
Caption ideas
Adapt them, and put your own photo or recording first. Square brackets are for you to fill in. Every one begins with “Ad” because you were given Pro.
Ad · I was given Pro free to try Global Adventurer on [route]. No account, no ads, and the map works with no signal, which matters up here. [link]
Ad · Ticking off the [Wainwrights / Munros / Corbetts] with Global Adventurer: it picks out the summits from the walks I record, so [n] of [total] are done. Pro, given free. [link]
Ad · Our [club or group] uses Global Adventurer to share live where we are on [outing]: one link and everyone can see the group. Pro, given free. [link]
Ad · No signal, no problem. I downloaded the map for [route] before I left and Global Adventurer did the rest. Pro, given free. [link]
Ad · What I like about Global Adventurer: £9.99 a year, no ads, and it never asked me to make an account. I was given Pro to try it. [link]
Labelling a post
In the UK, a post you make in return for something is advertising, and the Advertising Standards Authority and the Competition and Markets Authority expect it to say so clearly, at the start. This is guidance, not legal advice, and elsewhere your own country’s rules apply.
- Start the caption with “Ad” where people see it without tapping “more”.
- Use the platform’s own label as well: Instagram and Facebook’s “Paid partnership” label, the “Includes paid promotion” box on YouTube, or TikTok’s content disclosure setting.
- Say it in a video as well as in the caption, in your own words: “I was given Pro for free.”
Screenshots and the icon
Please use them as they are. Tap one to open it at full size, then save it.
