The walk
The walk starts from the lay-by on the A86 beside the Gallovie turning and goes out and back. The first 130 m are along the A86, then the estate track runs south, passes Gallovie farmhouse 1.1 km from the lay-by and goes on through the forest. A short path leaves the track for the gorge, and the line turns back at the viewpoint above the Linn of Pattack, 2.3 km from the lay-by. Return the same way.
It is 4.6 km (2.9 miles) with 69 m (230 ft) of ascent; allow about 1¼ hours. The grade is Easy.
The path ends at the edge of the gorge, which is unprotected: keep well back from it and keep children and dogs close. Take care with the traffic on the A86 at the start and end. The track passes the farm and houses at Gallovie: keep to it. Forestry and Land Scotland's Pattack Falls, the lower falls beside the main road, are a separate sight and not on this walk.
The lay-by is mapped in OpenStreetMap as parking with no fee.
